What is a Tatkaal Passport?

Indian passports are divided into two major categories: ordinary passports and tatkal passports. The Tatkaal Passport is the fast-track version of the ordinary passport and is issued by the passport office. Documents Required for Tatkaal Passport

Steps to Apply for a Tatkaal Passport

1. Register on the Passport Seva Portal

  • Visit www.passportindia.gov.in and create an account using your email ID and phone number.
  • Log in and select the "Tatkaal" option under the desired service (fresh or reissue).

2. Fill the Application Form

  • Complete the online form with all required details, including personal information, address, and emergency contact.

3. Pay Fees and Book an Appointment

  • Pay the Tatkaal fees online via credit/debit card, Internet banking, or SBI challan. Fees are:
    • Adult (36 pages): ₹3,500 (normal fee ₹1,500 + Tatkaal fee ₹2,000).
    • Adult (60 pages): ₹4,000.
    • Minor (36 pages, 5-year validity): ₹2,500.
  • After paying you can schedule a Tatkaal appointment at the nearest PSK or POPSK. Book your appointment early because tatkal appointments have limited number of slots.

4. Visit the PSK

  • Go to the PSK before 15 minutes of the scheduled time:
    • Carrr original documents with self-attested photocopies.
    • Application receipt (downloaded from the portal).
    • Tatkaal-specific documents (e.g., Annexure F, verification certificate).
  • Complete your biometric verification (fingerprints, photograph) and document submission.
  • Explain your urgency to PSK staff, if asked.

5. Police Verification (Post-Issuance)

  • Tatkaal passports are issued before police verification in most cases.
  • Police verification is conducted within 7-14 days after issuing the tatkal passport.

6. Track and Receive Your Passport

  • Use your Application Reference Number (ARN) to track your application status.
  • Your passport will be delivered within 2-3 days via India Post, if everything goes right.
