HDFC Credit Cardholders Can Now Transfer Points to Marriott Bonvoy

Marriott Bonvoy is one of the most popular hotel loyalty programs in India, offering benefits such as room upgrades, early check-in, late check-out, and the ability to redeem points across a wide range of luxury hotel brands worldwide.

Until recently, Marriott Bonvoy transfers were largely associated with American Express Credit Cards, thanks to their highly attractive one-to-one conversion ratio. While some other banks offered indirect options, HDFC Bank Credit Cardholders had no direct way to transfer reward points to Marriott Bonvoy, which was surprising given HDFC Bank’s position as India’s largest credit card issuer.

That has now changed.

Marriott Bonvoy Added as HDFC Credit Card Transfer Partner

HDFC Bank has officially added Marriott Bonvoy as a reward points transfer partner for select premium credit cards. Eligible cardholders can now convert their accumulated HDFC Reward Points directly into Marriott Bonvoy Points.

This new option is currently available only for a limited set of HDFC credit cards, primarily focused on premium and sub-premium users.

Eligible HDFC Credit Cards for Marriott Bonvoy Transfers

The following HDFC Bank Credit Cards are eligible for transferring reward points to Marriott Bonvoy:

HDFC Credit Card

Reward Points to Marriott Bonvoy Ratio

HDFC Infinia / Infinia Metal

2:1

HDFC Diners Club Black / Metal

2:1

HDFC Regalia Gold

3:1

This means that premium cardholders receive one Marriott Bonvoy point for every two HDFC reward points, while Regalia Gold users receive one Bonvoy point for every three reward points transferred.

Is Transferring HDFC Points to Marriott Bonvoy Worth It

While the addition of Marriott Bonvoy as a transfer partner is a welcome move, the conversion ratios are not very attractive, especially for premium cards like Infinia and Diners Club Black Metal.

A two-to-one transfer ratio significantly reduces the effective value of HDFC reward points when compared to alternative redemption options or competitors like American Express, which still offers a one-to-one transfer ratio to Marriott Bonvoy.

For Regalia Gold cardholders, the three-to-one ratio makes the transfer even less rewarding unless there is an urgent need for Bonvoy points.

When Should You Consider This Transfer

Transferring HDFC reward points to Marriott Bonvoy may make sense if:

  • You urgently need a small number of Bonvoy points for a hotel redemption
  • You are short of points for a confirmed booking or upgrade
  • No better transfer or redemption option is available at the moment

For regular usage or long-term reward strategy, this option is not ideal.

Bottom Line

HDFC Bank adding Marriott Bonvoy as a transfer partner is a positive step and fills a long-standing gap in its rewards ecosystem. However, the transfer ratios leave a lot to be desired, especially for premium cardholders.

For most users, it is still far more rewarding to transfer Marriott Bonvoy points from American Express Credit Cards, where the value proposition is significantly stronger. HDFC’s Bonvoy transfer option should be considered only as a last resort.
