SBI Card has announced important updates to the BPCL SBI Credit Card, which will come into effect from 1st May 2026. These changes mainly focus on late payment charges and the annual fee waiver criteria.

With this update, SBI Card aims to encourage timely payments and increase overall card usage. However, these changes may also reduce flexibility for many users.

Annual Fee Waiver Spend Increased

One of the biggest changes is in the annual fee waiver condition:

  • Earlier: ₹50,000 annual spend required
  • Now: ₹1,00,000 annual spend required

The annual fee remains ₹499, but users now need to spend double the amount to get it waived.

This makes it harder for moderate spenders to avoid the annual fee, and may not be cost-effective for everyone.

Revision in Late Payment Charges

SBI Card has revised its late payment fee structure, reducing the no-charge limit and introducing new charges for smaller dues.

What Has Changed

  • No late fee now applies only up to ₹100 (earlier ₹500)
  • New ₹100 charge introduced for dues between ₹100 and ₹500
  • Slight increase in charges for ₹500 – ₹1,000 range

This means even small missed payments may now attract penalties.

What This Means for Cardholders

These updates clearly indicate a shift towards:

  • Encouraging timely bill payments
  • Increasing minimum usage expectations
  • Reducing benefits for low spenders

Users who previously relied on lower spending to waive the annual fee may now need to rethink their usage.

Should You Still Use This Card

The card can still be useful for fuel benefits and BPCL-related spends. However:

  • If your annual spending is below ₹1 lakh, paying ₹499 fee may be more practical
  • Avoid unnecessary spending just to meet the waiver threshold
  • Ensure timely payments to avoid extra charges

Bottom Line

The latest update to the BPCL SBI Credit Card makes it slightly less user-friendly for average spenders. While the changes promote responsible usage, they also reduce earlier flexibility.

Cardholders should now be more careful with payments and evaluate whether increasing spending just to save ₹499 is truly worth it.
