The HDFC BizPower Credit Card has been a popular choice for business users, especially for earning rewards on tax payments like Income Tax and GST. With the start of the financial year 2026, HDFC Bank has announced multiple updates across its cards, including BizPower.

These changes include revisions in reward rates, new milestone benefits, fair usage limits, and spend-based travel benefits. While some updates improve value, others slightly reduce overall returns.

Change in Base Reward Rate

Effective from 15th May 2026:

  • Earlier: 4 Reward Points per ₹150
  • Now: 5 Reward Points per ₹200

Assuming a value of ₹0.65 per Reward Point, this leads to an approximate drop of 6.25% in effective reward rate.

This change slightly reduces the card’s base earning potential on regular business spends.

Change in Accelerated Reward Rate

From 15th May 2026, earning accelerated rewards will now come with a condition:

  • Spend ₹25,000 on non-business transactions per statement cycle
  • (Excluding Income Tax and GST payments)

Once this condition is met:

  • Earn 5X Reward Points (25 RP per ₹200) on business spends like Income Tax and GST

Capping:

  • Maximum 7,500 Reward Points per statement cycle

This makes the reward structure more conditional compared to earlier.

New Milestone Benefits

Effective from 1st July 2026:

  • Earn a ₹5,000 voucher (MakeMyTrip / Reliance Digital)
  • On quarterly spends of ₹2.5 lakh

Earlier, the benefit was ₹2,000 for the same spend threshold, making this a positive update.

However:
The following categories are now excluded from milestone calculations:

  • Fuel
  • Income Tax
  • GST
  • EMI transactions

Fair Usage Capping on Tax Payments

To control misuse, HDFC has introduced fair usage limits:

  • Reward Points will be given only on:
    • First 2 Income Tax transactions
    • First 2 GST transactions per billing cycle
  • Additional transactions beyond this will not earn rewards

This change mainly impacts users who used the card heavily for tax payments.

Travel Benefits Become Spend-Based

From 1st July 2026:

  • 2 domestic airport lounge visits per quarter
  • 1 Zero Cancellation flight voucher (MakeMyTrip) per quarter

Condition:

  • Spend ₹75,000 in the previous calendar quarter

This shifts benefits from being complimentary to spend-based eligibility.

What These Changes Mean

The updates show a clear shift toward controlled and sustainable rewards. While genuine users will still benefit, heavy tax spenders may see reduced value due to capping and conditions.

The introduction of milestone rewards and structured benefits aims to balance usage across categories rather than focusing only on tax payments.

Bottom Line

The HDFC BizPower Credit Card update is a mix of positives and limitations. While the reward rate has slightly decreased and new conditions have been introduced, improved milestone benefits and structured rewards still keep the card relevant.

Overall, it remains a good option for business users, but those relying heavily on tax spends may need to reassess their usage strategy.
